"Leaden Skies" by
Ann Parker (Poisoned Pen Press,
$24.95, 298 pages). Irrepressible
Inez Stannert, co-owner of the
Silver Queen Saloon in 1880s Leadville,
Colo., is back. Inez has a lot
on her mind: her long-absent husband,
her secret lover, the unexpected
death of a young hooker, a visit
from former President Grant. Then
there is Horace Tabor, who has
gotten wealthy from silver and
is not too happy with Inez.
In short,
there's plenty
of action
here in this
latest from
a Bay Area
author, and
the star is
the charged
atmosphere
of a frontier
town where
law and order
play second
fiddle to
expedience.
